  1. Mr Thomas Denman says:

I would like Renoir class to choose Muhammad Ali because he is one of my favourite athletes of all time. His life has been fascinating and I think it would be a great topic for my class. Muhammad won the Light Heavyweight Gold medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960. (He was known as Cassius Clay then, before he converted to being a Muslim and changed his name). I would like Renoir class to learn about Muhammad Ali for a number of reasons…

Firstly, Muhammad Ali stood up against racism towards black people. America during the 1960s was still racially segregated and Muhammad Ali supported Martin Luther King and other important civil rights activists to try and change opinions, which they did. He used his fame and success to change the world for the better.

Secondly, Muhammad Ali was opposed to war and refused to join the US Army and fight in the Vietnam War. He refused because he felt strongly that the Vietnamese soldiers had done nothing to harm him or America. Thus, he felt it was wrong to kill people without any just cause or reason. Also, he believed (rightly) that the American army should not have the support of black soldiers unless the racism which these soldiers felt on a daily basis in society was stopped.

Finally, Muhammad Ali is a man who stands up for what he believes in. He had great courage and skill. Ali was the greatest boxer that has ever lived and he is somebody who all of my class could look up to and admire. I hope we can learn about him in more detail this term.

It would be good if you can give a few reasons why you would like to study that particular athlete. See if you can find out about them on the internet.

  14. rojda akyuz says:

I would want my class (Renoir class ) to chose USAIN BOLT because he has won lots of gold special medals and most people will know that he deserving all those medals.

any way as i was saying you need to choses him beacuse he is realy famous and he has lots off runing scill’s to know and to learn.

Bolt won a 200 m gold medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships, making him the competition’s youngest-ever gold medalist. In 2004, at the CARIFTA Games, he became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 m in less than 20 seconds with a time of 19.93 s,[9] breaking the previous world junior record held by Roy Martin by two-tenths of a second. He turned professional in 2004, and although he competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics, he missed most of the next two seasons due to injuries. In 2007, he broke Don Quarrie’s 200 m Jamaican record with a run of 19.75 s.

His 2008 season began with his first world record performance—a 100 m world record of 9.72 s—and culminated in world and Olympic records in both the 100 m and 200 m events at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. He ran 9.69 s for the 100 m and 19.30 s in the 200 m, and also set a 4×100 m relay record of 37.10 s with the Jamaican team. This made him the first man to win three sprinting events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man to set world records in all three at a single Olympics. The following year he further lowered his own 100 m and 200 m world records to 9.58 s and 19.19 s respectively at the 2009 World Championships.[10] This made him the first man to hold both the 100 and 200 m world and Olympic titles at the same time.

    Kelly Holmes

Kelly Holmes is one of my best athletes. She was born on April the 19th 1970. she specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres events and won a gold medal for both distances at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She set British records in numerous events and still holds the records over the 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 metres distances.

I think Kelly Holmes is my best athlete but that’s just my opinion. She plays for Great Britain and has won lost of medals during events. She also turned to the professional athletics circuit in the early 1990s and in 1994 she won the 1500 m at the Commonwealth Games and took silver at the European Championships.

You should study her because she is interesting and she is quite simple to do.

  19. campm says:

I would like Masson class to choose Cathy Freeman because I think she is a good athlete and a ‘great’ runner. She was born on the 16th February 1973 and she is an Australian sprinter. Cathy Freeman was the first ever Aboriginal commonwealth Games gold medallist at the age of 16 years old.She did a breakthrough season. Cathy Freeman (Or Freeman) won a gold medal both 200m and 400m.She also won a silver medal in the Olympics.
    Outstandingly amazing!!

That’s why I would like to do Cathy Freeman because she is a Great Olympic runner who injoys running and being an athlete and winning lots of gold and silver medals.

I would love it if my class studied Kelly Holmes. She was born on the 19th of April, 1970.She specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres events and won a gold medal for both distances at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.Did you know her real name is Dame Kelly Holmes?

Firstly, she set British records in lots of events and holds the records over the 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 metres distances.

Secondly, She first started when she was 12, which is a really young age to start training, so I would say that she is amazing!

Finally, she joined the army and was inspired by Sebastian Coe.

    Also, she is SO strong!

Thats why my class should study Kelly Holmes.I hope my classmates feel the same way!

  22. kesky says:

I think Breton class should get Lionel Messi

At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency.

I would like my class to study Michael Phelps, because he won 16 Olympic medals-six gold and two bronze at Athens in 2004, and eight gold at Beijing in 2008.

Micheal Phelps was born on the day of June 30 1985 (age of 26) Baltimore, Maryland. These are some of Michael Phelps nicknames The Baltimore Bullet and Flying Fish.Do you believe that Mr Phelps height is 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m)!!!Michael’s international titles and record breaking performances have earned him the World Swimmer of the Year Award six times and American Swimmer of the Year Award eight times.

Another reason I want my class to study Michael Phelps is, because he has won a total of sixty-six medals in major international competition, fifty-four gold, nine silver, and three bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, and the Pan Pacific Championships. His unprecedented Olympic success in 2008 earned Phelps Sports Illustrated magazine’s Sportsman of the Year award.

After the 2008 Summer Olympics, Phelps started the Michael Phelps Foundation, which focuses on growing the sport of swimming and promoting healthier lifestyles. As a participant in the US Anti-Doping Agency’s “Project Believe” program, Phelps is regularly tested to ensure that his system is clean of performance-enhancing drugs.

That is why I want my class to study Michael Phelps>

  24. Rasha says:

i would like Usain Bolt because
    Biography of Usain Bolt, Mutant

In just two years, he has demolished the 100-meter dash world records with times that are superhuman — literally thirty years ahead of what they historically should be. So what if the greatest athlete alive decided to actually get dead serious?
At the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games, Usain Bolt, a Jamaican sprinter attracted everyone’s attention by his outstanding performance in the men’s athletics. He won three gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m and 4×100 m events, and set a new world record, finishing the race at 9.69 s, 19.30 s, and 37.10 s respectively. The 4×100 m record was made with his Jamaican teammates Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, and Asafa Powell. He is the first sportsperson to win gold medals in all the three events at the same Olympics, and break the world record set by Carl Lewis in 1984. Due to his great achievements, he is nicknamed as ‘Lightning Bolt’ or ‘Bolt from the blue’. He is also famously known as the ‘World’s Fastest Man’. Usain Bolt biography reveals the facts about his early life, his career and achievements.
